Publisher Description:

In 1664, when the English conquered New Amsterdam, the present State of New Jersey had been for some years a part of New Netherland. Dr. Pomfret describes meticulously the founding of the colony, the circumstances of the division between East and West New Jersey, and the various problems which faced the settlers and the proprietors of East New Jersey first under the family of Sir George Carteret and later under the Twenty Four Proprietors.
