Publisher Description: Sven Sonnenberg, as a child, lived with his family in North-Eastern Poland when WWII broke out in 1939. He was of mixed parentage: his mother's roots in Germany, his father a Jew. He tells the story of his Jewish-German family. They were dragged across Poland by the Nazis from one place of bizarre events to another: from ghetto to a death camp- the only possible final destination. Sven Sonnenberg survived WWII in Poland, with remnants of his shattered family. He began a new life in the orphanage under another tyranny - Communism regime. Overcoming difficult, but sometimes laughable obstacles on his rocky and steep life path, Sven graduated in 1957 from the Polytechnic of Warsaw. Then he worked in the aircraft industry until 1968 when he escaped to the US where he gladly joined Kodak. He lost his long time wife to cancer, and recently married a woman, who some unfriendly people could call a youngster, but whose presence helps Sven to chase away memories of his tragic past. |
