APPLETON JR. formerly served as editor-in-chief of publications for the Kentucky Historical Society. Since 2000, he has been professor of history at Eastern Kentucky University. He has coedited five books, including Negotiating Boundaries of Southern Womanhood: Dealing with the Powers That Be and Searching for Their Places: Women in the South across Four Centuries.Elder, Angela Esco: - ANGELA ESCO ELDER is the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies Postdoctoral Fellow at Virginia Tech. Her research interests focus on the antebellum and Civil War era, with an emphasis on gender, emotion, family, and trauma in the American South.Friend, Craig Thompson: - CRAIG THOMPSON FRIEND is an associate professor of history and Director of Public History at North Carolina State University.
