Robertson Davies was born in Thamesville, Ontario in 1913. He was educated at Upper Canada College, Queen's University, and Balliol College, Oxford. He was the first Canadian member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature; Honourary Fellow, Balliol College; Member of the Order of Ontario; and a Companion of the Order of Canada.
