Publisher Description:

In our third annual Best of Books by the Bed, 28 writers divulge the special books--nearly 300 of them--occupying the prime real estate next to their beds: how the books got there, what makes them stand out, what longings they fulfill. Along the way, the wordsmiths offer insights into their own literary pursuits and why reading is such a critical element of their craft. Appendices of publications by contributors, as well as all the volumes they write about, round out this voyeuristic book lovers' fest.

Contributor Bio(s): Olsen, Eric: - Eric Olsen is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop. For years, he was a freelance writer, mostly of articles about health and fitness, but he'd write about anything for a buck. His latest book is We Wanted to be Writers, a series of conversations about writing and the writing life with nearly 30 of his classmates and teachers at the Workshop.Olsen, Cheryl: - The members of Team Olsen have long since overcome the feeling that the other was hogging all the creative molecules in the house and exerting undue pressure on noisy keyboards. After four-plus decades of wordmongering, Cheryl and Eric happily maintain separate home offices, literary tastes, and styles. The husband and wife writers edit each other's written work-and sometimes spoken language as well. Every once in awhile, they put aside their respective creative endeavors to work on a project together that renews their faith in the transformative power of words. This book is one of those projects.
