Maximillian meets Manuelo, Iago, Jesus, Emmy and Mama Rosita, who run a taco stand at the fair; Ruthle Britten who is a school librarian in the winter and a ranch hand in the summer; and Trina Rose, a famous English singer, who is an old friend of his father. He also meets Lilly and Sabrina. In fact he meets them several times, under several names, and under several circumstances; he cannot tell what Lilly and Sabrina are. By the end of the month Max has discovered some new things about first class. Also about kindness, love and loyalty and the art of pretending. People and events, Max finds, are not always what they seem; in fact, even someone as smart as Max can sometimes be surprised.
