Publisher Description:
This is the original book by John Lockard, which has been edited to bring it in line with modern standards to provide an enjoyable and engaging account as set out by John Lockard. Complete with illustrations to bring the ideas on the page to life in full colour. This book is intended for both the beginners and the seasoned pros, and for those who are just curious to find out about this interesting and rather unusual pastime. No specific background knowledge is required as John explains all in this complete guide. Complete with interesting facts about bees and honey, this is just the tip of the ice berg on a subject of fascination throughout time, who would have thought bees and the art of beekeeping could be so interesting. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I had fun putting it together. I was born in a little valley, hemmed in by mountains running north and south on either side. It varies in width from one to three miles from the foot of one range to the other. From my home I have a clear view of these beautiful Mountains and, as these mountains and lowlands teemed with game of all kind, and being heavily timbered, made an ideal location for the home of the wild bee. From early youth I loved to lure the wild turkey, stalk the deer and line the bee to his home. Is it any wonder that after forty years of undiminished passion for sports of this kind that I can truthfully say there is scarcely a square rod of these mountains that is not indelibly impressed on my mind in connection with some of the above mentioned sports or pastimes? I will confine myself in this work to the subject of Bee Hunting, believing it to be one of the most fascinating and beneficial of pastimes. Honey hunting or Honey harvesting is the gathering of honey from wild bee colonies and is one of the most ancient human activities and is still practiced by aboriginal societies in parts of Africa, Asia, Australia and South America. Some of the earliest evidence of gathering honey from wild colonies is from rock painting, dating to around 8,000 BC. Gathering honey from wild bee colonies is usually done by subduing the bees with smoke and breaking open the tree or rocks where the colony is located, often resulting in the physical destruction of the colony. A great book on bee hunting which deals with bee keeping from a very basic level without complicated beekeeping equipment and the minimum of beekeeping supplies. One of the best beekeeping courses found online, great guide for bee keepers of all levels, an ultimate beekeeping starter kit for the novice and the pro. Welcome to the bees nest, a beekeeping for beginners manuals will have you flying through the beehives as you will quickly learn how to build a beehive and eventually in a position to offer honey bees for sale if you so choose.
