Publisher Description: Frederick Douglass wrote this narrative himself. He was born into slavery circa 1818, but escaped in his 20's. In the early 1840's the antislavery movement gained momentum. In 1841 Douglass attended an abolitionist movement and was hired as an abolitionist speaker for the American Anti Slavery Society. He was one of the few black employees that worked for the mostly white society. His speeches and writings greatly contributed to the triumph of the Anti Slavery Society, the passing of the 13th amendment and the ending of slavery in the US. A classical book. |
