Publisher Description:
Literary Nonfiction. Essays. Italian & Italian American Essays. Giose Rimanelli's study of Pavese highlights a strong sense of tradition, a loyalty to place and to one's roots, and the idea of America as a metaphor for one's literary substance, one's myth, and one's identity.

Contributor Bio(s): Rimanelli, Giose: - Winner of the prestigious American Book Award for his avant-garde novel, Benedetta in Guysterland, in 1994, Giose Rimanelli is the author of numerous novels, poetry collections, collections of essays, and innumerable journal articles and reviews. He is, in addition, a long-time painter in both oils and watercolor. His debut novel, Tiro al piccione (1952; The Day of the Lion [1954]) was later made into a movie by Giuliano Montaldo. He is Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature at SUNY Albany. He divides his time between Lowell, Massachusetts, and Pompano Beach, Florida, with frequent trips to Italy in the meantime.
