Rich with true-to-life illustrations and handwritten text, this handsome guidebook captures the nature of the sea, beach, salt marsh, plants, and animals of the region in easy-to-understand text. Common names are used to make the information memorable for casual beachcombers and amateur naturalists alike.

This expanded edition includes fifty new color illustrations, a new foreword, five new essays, a new glossary of tideland terms, and a new index of common and scientific names of tideland species.
