The Evansville Ordnance Plant made 96 percent of all .45-caliber ammunition used in the war, while the Republic Aviation Plant produced more than 6,500 P-47 Thunderbolts - almost half of all P-47s built during the war. Contributor Bio(s): MacLeod, James Lachlan: - James L. MacLeod was educated at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He taught history and British studies at Harlaxton College from 1994 to1999 and since 1999 has been a member of the history department at the University of Evansville. He conducts research and teaches courses in European history and the two world wars, and lectures frequently on these topics. |
