Publisher Description:
Through experience of managing three libraries, a school librarian tries to develop one school library's collection after the library had been closed for 10 years. Bernice Williams decides to take the challenge. The principal wants to know how much the school library is worth so that he can see if he has enough in his county's school budget. In this fictitious case study, the reader will experience Bernice serving in a lead role in developing and executing a collection support program across various Dewey Decimal subject areas in addition to supporting critical duties in her evolving role as serving as a critical member of her school's PTA (Parent Teacher Association). Also, experience Bernice partnering with colleagues (homeroom teachers who specialize in one or more of the following subject areas: Mathematics/Science; Reading/English Language; Social Studies; Art; Music; Physical Education) to offer information literacy and research support for faculty, students, and staff in the form of in-depth consultations, workshops, courses, and other targeted outreach and development initiatives based on the contents in the school library's collection. Using Microsoft Excel and raw data from a library database, Bernice became an active member of the school community and found out what the school library collection was really worth after its school community brought it back to life by using Bernice's two years of data analysis through Excel to show the trends that the library collection experienced throughout each quarter of a school year.
