Publisher Description:
Stanley E. Rocklin, Ph.D. psychologist/author, with help from Carolyn D. Raines, M.B.A., weaves the tale of three birth mothers who are reunited later in life with their four then-adult children. The reader is asked to understand that at the times of the births of these four babies, to be an unwed mother was a badge of shame. Most of those unwed mothers whom the authors knew, were sent away to distant cities to give birth and then continue their lives, often in communities other than the community in which they'd previously lived. Many dropped out of high school or college to go away to stay until the child was born. Abortion was illegal in the USA in those days, so it was dangerous and sometimes lethal. First is the exciting and fascinating story of Lyn, really the main character in this book, who becomes pregnant from a date rape, ending her college career. The baby boy is adopted out. Lyn marries for a few years and divorces. In Washington, Lyn works for the Central Intelligence Agency and later manages a Congressman's Washington Office, during which time she again becomes pregnant. The baby's father fails to marry her as promised. Lyn gives the baby up for adoption under pressure from her parents. Ashamed, they convince her to go away to Arizona., stay with her uncle, and start a new life far away from home. In Arizona Lyn meets and marries Steve. Fifteen years later Lyn & Steve move to Washington, D.C., and Lyn's two children come back into her life and Steve's in a series of sweet and sour experiences. The stories of the other two of the four adopted children are equally riveting, emotionally charged stories, who like Lyn's two children, Shelley and Michael, as adults, find their birth families. Be prepared to ride an emotional roller coaster as tears are shed, and great joy is felt.
