A CHRISMAS CAROL

A Complete Metamorphosis

Have you ever seen something or someone go through a total transformation? I mean a complete metamorphosis? Well, if you have then you know this feeling...the awe and admiration of the new version. This is the feeling Dickens awakens in anyone who gets to read this magical book. The entire book captivates you all through and in the end, you appreciate and have a changed perspective towards Christmas.

The author tells the story of an old bitter, mean, and spiteful man called Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge underwent a complete transformation to become a better man. This happens after a mystical visit by the Christmas Ghosts of the past, present, and future and a visit by Jacob Marley his dead partner.

Dickens writes of how Scrooge who had no respect or any recognition for Christmas, transforms into a kind and gentle old man. This happens after he begs the ghost of the future for another chance to live an honorable and worthy life. His request is granted and immediately, we start seeing the drastic change in Scrooge as he shares in the spirit of Christmas to those around him whom he earlier despised.

The author is keen to note that the transformation continues to manifest in Scrooge s life and radiate in his actions even in the years to come. The following has been captured in A Christmas Carol:

  • Jacob Marley s ghost.
  • Behold, Ghosts of Christmas past.
  • Behold, Ghosts of the Christmas present.
  • Ghosts of Christmas yet to come.
  • Redemption, Scrooge redeem yourself
  • At last, a total metamorphosis
