Publisher Description:

Telemetry system is a critical part of a bioimplantable systems design. The system not only needs to receive external command to control the operation of an implant but also receives external power to energize an implant in a battery-less manner or to recharge an implanted battery. Various techniques based on RF and ultrasound have been demonstrated. The RF approach can couple an appreciable amount of power to an implanted antenna positioned relatively close to the skin surface, while the ultrasound means can transfer power deeper into the tissue but deserves a careful consideration of impedance matching between an ultrasound transceiver and the surrounding tissue. In this chapter, the RF approach will be chosen as the focus for discussion
