Publisher Description: A troubled student makes elaborate plans to shoot and kill all of his classmates at school. His hatred escalates while he fills in the details of his scheme as the time to execute it approaches. Oblivious to all this Mr. Harmon, a teacher at the high school, is distraught to learn that his school program HOMEROOM is set to be cancelled. Harmon came up with HOMEROOM as a way for students to help and support one other, and before all the good it does evaporates he realizes that the only way to save HOMEROOM is to take his appeal directly to the Board of Education. As Harmon prepares his presentation for their next meeting plans also continue unchecked for a massacre at the school. As Harmon thinks back to past HOMEROOMs he remembers the students who were touched and transformed by their experiences there. He also recollects occasions when the outcomes were less positive, and he begins to doubt HOMEROOM's value. Harmon's crisis of faith, his presentation to the Board and a student's desire for mass destruction all weave towards a surprising climax. |
