Publisher Description: The year is 1892, and sixteen-year-old Mary Weatherbee is about to embark on the first of many adventures in her quest to fulfill a lifelong dream. Her goal is to become a professional artist. And now she is about to begin her formal training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. But right from the first day, things didn't go as smoothly as she'd hoped.... |
Contributor Bio(s): Carlisle, Lindsay P.: - While working as an administrator at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in the 1980s, Lindsay Carlisle became intrigued with the history of the school and its students. During her studies for a Master of Liberal Arts at Harvard University's Extension School, she chose a thesis topic that combined her interests in history and the visual arts. The research for her thesis, titled "Educational Opportunities for Women at Boston Art Schools: 1873-1910," led to the ideas for "Art School Girls." Now semi-retired, Lindsay lives in Concord, Massachusetts, and enjoys spending time in her native Maine. |
