Publisher Description:
Vices are outlawed in Cloquet in 1918--except on the Island. There, loggers can have the time of their lives with drink, women of the night, and poker games. When the city is threatened by fire, the virtuous citizens of Cloquet have to overcome their prejudice in order to survive. Everything is destroyed--except the Island. As one reporter commented, "The Devil takes care of his own."

Contributor Bio(s): Lee, Nancy: - Nancy graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and became a a teacher of English literature after a rather lengthy sabbatical to raise her six children. During her years at home, she helped with homework, packed lunches, healed the sick, and gave advice to the occasional child with a broken heart. From all this experience, Nancy wrote articles depicting her adventures as a mother for Scope Magazine, a women's periodical published by the American Lutheran Church, and traveled extensively as a speaker to women's groups of the church. This is Nancy's first novel.
