Publisher Description:
Forage plants serve as the mainstay of our livestock economy in the United States. The great potential for forage plants depends on their effective use in a livestock enterprise and their real value is measured in terms of animal performance.
Animal performance on many forages, which the Agronomist has classified as high-quality feed, frequently has been less than expected. Quite obviously some factor or factors associated with the plant material limited or inhibited optimum animal performance. We have referred to these plant factors as anti-quality components.
Discussions and exchange of ideas among plant and animal scientists are imperative if we are to make progress in overcoming the complex plant-animal relationship that limits animal performance. Considering these relationships, the Crop Science Society of America sponsored a symposium entitled, "Anti-Quality Components of Forages, " during the 1972 annual meeting held in Miami Beach, Florida.
