Publisher Description:
Marsha Brandsdorfer has been working as a legal secretary for three decades. She is the author of her 2007 memoir, "The Accidental Secretary." Despite all her experience and enthusiasm, beginning with the Great Recession of 2008, she could not find steady work in her field. Part memoir, but mostly a how-to-book, in "A Practical Guide to Staying Sane, Creative and Focused, Especially While Job Hunting in a Bad Economy," Marsha writes about her personal experiences of job survival. To bring in money, Marsha learned to be open-minded. She moved from California to Texas, not knowing a single soul, seeking job opportunities. She participated as a lab rat for medical research to help science; worked as an Election Clerk where she learned how important it is to have a voice; worked as a Seasonal Tax Examiner for the Internal Revenue Service; worked at an Austin music festival; participated in a focus group; entered and won a few contests, and worked as a part-time caretaker, which she found most rewarding, all while seeking full-time work. In her book, Marsha provides interviewing tips based on her own experiences, job searching tips, money tips, and tips on how to be physically and mentally good to yourself, and why this is so important especially while looking for employment. During her long journey, Marsha learned that assisting people is something she is good at, and writing remains her strongest passion. Marsha is an English Writing graduate of Queens College, the City University of New York. A native New Yorker, Marsha presently resides in Texas. She has also lived in Louisiana and California, and says she is curious to see what challenges tomorrow brings. With "A Practical Guide to Staying Sane, Creative and Focused, Especially While Job Hunting in a Bad Economy," the reader will learn how to be more proactive in his quest for employment, how to avoid schemes, why the job seeker should be open-minded to other opportunities as they arise, how to handle job intervie
