About the Author

A native of South America, Susan Nichols moved to Covington, Louisiana, when she was 13 and attended St. Scholastica Academy. Before that time, she had neither seen nor heard of Louisiana and cried when her first meal at school was red beans and rice. Nichols returned to Venezuela every summer until her senior year, when her parents moved to Covington and stayed.

A graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, Nichols taught a variety of subjects and grade levels before returning to SLU to get a masters in both History and English. There, she met her husband Howard, and together, they have two daughters, Lizzie and Frannie. After 25 years of teaching English at SLU, Nichols retired in 2007 to pursue art, writing, and travel.
