Created in 1980 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), this riverside Refuge provides protection and critical habitat for three endangered species: Lange's metalmark butterfly (Apodemia mormo langei)(Lange's), Contra Costa wallflower (Erysimum capitatum angustatum)(wallflower), and Antioch Dunes evening primrose (Oenothera deltoides howellii)(primrose). The CCP provides a clear statement of direction for the management of the Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge over the next 15 years; a clear vision of the desired future conditions of the Refuge; the public with an understanding of the reasons for management actions on the Refuge; long-term continuity of Refuge management; and a basis for operation, maintenance, and development budget requests.
