Publisher Description:

This is the revealing portrait of a prolific singer, songwriter, and performer of country music, one of the most decorated songwriters in music history who reinvented his life after his midfifties.

He came to a point in his career when he questioned if what he had to say mattered anymore. A new generation of artists and songwriters had transformed the genre, and the Country Music Hall of Fame member and Grand Ole Opry star was no longer relevant. A product of a long-gone Nashville, he was now a museum piece, seen in Nashville only as a nostalgia act. He was near bankruptcy, and his marriage was falling apart. Then Anderson worked to reinvent himself. Today, thanks to the support of those who believed in him, he continues to craft songs that grab you by the heart. He is the only country-music songwriter to have a song on the charts in each of the past seven consecutive decades, as well as garnering multiple awards and Grammy Award nominations. This book documents Anderson's trajectory in the business and his influence on the genre.
