Publisher Description: The intention of this book is to provide the simplest method of reviewing the major drugs that are prescribed and administered in the healthcare profession. It covers the specific drugs for the different body systems. It is presented with definitions, classes, pharmacodynamic, drug interactions, side effects, adverse reactions and healthcare responsibilities. There are quizzes and tests in all chapters. The author utilized the essential information from rigorous hours of research to prepare the reader for an examination or for review in general. This book also serves as a handbook and guide for readers interested in drugs and medications or students taking Pharmacology classes. Some questions require a healthcare professional to determine the number of drops of solution that will be infused per minute. This is a question regarding clients who are hooked up to IV solutions. The standard formula for drops/min is: V df / hrs x 60 mins where V = volume of solution, df = drop factor, and hrs = duration in hours. Example: A burn patient has a prescription of 120 cc of IV antibiotic within 30 minutes using a drop factor of 20 cc. One of the staff nurses saw the prescription and asks the charge nurse how many drops should she run per minute. The charge nurse said 80 drops per minute. Solution: Volume = 120 cc, drop factor = 20 and duration in hours = 30 minutes Therefore: 120 x 20 = 2400 / 30 = 80 drops per minute. |
