All fifteen-year-old Alicia wants is to be accepted by the kids in the popular crowd. So when her family moves from Missouri to Illinois at the start of her sophomore year of high school, it seems like the perfect opportunity for the formerly shy, awkward Alicia to transform herself.

Initially, it seems like Alicia really has morphed from a caterpillar into a butterfly. She makes friends with kids in the popular crowd and even catches the eye of the most sought-after boy in school. Alicia falls hard for this guy, throwing herself headlong into their blossoming relationship. And, for a while, everything in Alicia's life shimmers with possibility.

But just because life seems great on the outside doesn't mean that everything is OK inside. Alicia's emotions spiral out of control, and she attempts to take her own life rather than deal with the fallout of high school drama.
