Alf came into my life under the misplaced delusion that he had been born to be an upper-class dog. He soon learned how to survive among farm and boatyard dogs. He drove me crazy, he often went walk-about, chased sheep, stole food, attacked postmen, and got into fights with other dogs. When Alf died it broke my heart. I would like to dedicate this book to all of the dogs that have enriched my own life, and to those people and kids who are lucky enough to share their time and love with dogs of their own. |
