Publisher Description:
Delma is a simple-living country girl who loves camels. She talks her boyfriend Martin into taking an ill-advised road trip in an old Bedford truck into Australia's Outback to search for feral camels, then try to capture some and bring them home to milk them. They head for the Strzelecki Desert in South Australia, one of the most remote places in Australia. It is when they stop at a lonely truck stop in the middle of the desert, that things go horribly wrong. The owners of the truck stop are two losers, known in the area as Jerk-Off Jeff and Gelignite Jessie. In an attempt to escape from these people's clutches, Martin breaks Jeff's nose and Delma shoots Jessie in the stomach, requiring a call to the Air Ambulance that takes her to hospital in Thargomindah. She remains there in a critical condition.Delma and Martin find a place in the desert to camp. They decide to continue their search for camels, despite the fact that a police chopper keeps hovering ominously above them. When the chopper eventually lands, Delma and Martin expect to be arrested. They are told however, that the two people they seriously injured have not pressed charges, something they cannot understand. They are invited to lunch at a sheep station not far from their campsite. The owners of the property, one of the largest in Australia, are very hospitable and offer to help them protect them from Jeff if comes after them, as they are sure he will. Their prediction proves to be true. Jeff comes after them with a vengeance and mayhem results. Strange things begin to happen and Del and Martin are unable to tell who their friends and enemies are. People and animals are murdered in a frenzy of revenge and bloodshed that takes them all back fifty years when rapes and murders took place in the old homestead and the perpetrators were never caught. Del and Martin find themselves caught up in a web of intrigue that seems to become more and more complex and obscure the longer they stay at the sheep station. But they soon discover they cannot leave. There are evil forces at work that will ensure they meet the same demise as the station-owners' predecessors.
