Publisher Description:
Mastery Over Anger & Victory Over Violence introduces a psychoeducational program designed to help those individuals who struggle with anger, those who have been perpetrators of violence and those who have been victims of relationship abuse and violence. It is an essential resource for Pastors, Chaplains, Anger-management, Batterers' Intervention and Trauma Survivor Counselors, and has been proven to be very suitable as a self-help guide. Compared to many books on the subject that teach anger-management this manual helps readers and students gain mastery over anger and victory over violence. In eight easy to understand lessons it teaches readers how to use anger constructively -- to heal and nurture, rather than harm and destroy those they are in relationship with. The material covered includes exercises that when practiced not only helps perpetrators and victims gain mastery over anger, stop relationship abuse and prevent violence, it facilitates the healing of one's personhood, the reconciliation of relationships and the restoration of families. The course provides keys for changing problematic behavior patterns, negative attitudes and underlying misbeliefs. It also facilitates the development of positive societal values and norms concerning the family structure, as well as the roles and tasks of individual family members. The course is psychoeducational - didactically focused and behavior-modification oriented. The skill-streaming exercises included impart new life-management skills to individuals, couples, families and co-workers. This volume and others that collectively comprise the Save Our Families program has been used in Court, Probation and Parole Certified Anger-Management, Domestic Violence Abatement, Batterer's Intervention and Trauma Survivors' treatment programs. The Save Our Families curriculum has been approved as complying with the Penal Code and Family Code of numerous jurisdictions including California, Oregon and Florida. The efficacy of the program has been established; the graduates of the program demonstrating a recidivism rate of less than fifteen percent (15%) in the first year following completion of treatment.
