Publisher Description:
Youth Catechesis, Pastor's Class is a two year program. Each unit includes the following: Memory Work assignments from both Luther's Small Catechism and appropriate Bible Passages; Bible Studies on pertinent Bible Stories; Questions on sections of the Explanation of Luther's Small Catechism; and questions on the Divine Service as it is found in the Lutheran Service Book. It is a two year program because much is missed and forgotten the first year, consequently the second year is particularly beneficial as a review and reinforcement for the catechumens. The change between first and second year catechumens is the amount of memory work. The second year catechumens have more memory work, building on the first year.Books to Purchase: Youth Catechesis, Pastor or Catechist's Guide, By Rev Galen Friedrichs (one book used both years)Youth Catechesis, Catechumen's Workbook, By Rev Galen Friedrichs (a book for each year)Books they should already have from previous years: English Standard Version Bible (CPH)Luther's Small Catechism with Explanation, CPH:2008 (22-3110) Lutheran Service Book, CPH:2006 (03-1170)GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH CATECHETICAL SERIESAt Grace Lutheran Church, Lamar, MO we begin communing our children at ages 3-5. The requirements are: The parent(s) or guardian(s) as the case may be, must be communicant members of Grace Lutheran Church. The child must be able to pray the Lord's Prayer and Apostle's Creed with their parents and the pastor. He must be able to answer basic questions about Baptism and the Lord's Supper, i.e. that Baptism is in the name of the Holy Trinity, the name of the Holy Trinity, that they entered the Church through Baptism, and that Baptism always involves water. About the Lord's Supper they need to know that it is the actual Body and Blood of Jesus that they are receiving. In fact, we prefer that when asked what they are receiving in the Lord's Supper; their first reaction is to say, "The Body and Blood of Jesus" rather than "bread and wine." At Grace Lutheran Church we insist upon using only unleavened bread and grape wine. For a further discussion on the age of first communion see the author's booklet, "The Lord's Supper, the Food of Life, and the Feast of Heaven," the chapter on "Age of First Communion," page 40.Preschool to Kindergarten: Bible Stories and sheets to color.
