Publisher Description:
"The anthology From Broadsheets to Broadband: Readings in U.S. Media History helps readers form a firm understanding of the development of media in the United States. It introduces them to primary sources from the field and charts media history from the growth of the young nation to the online revolution.

The text is divided into six sections covering colonial media, the development of mass media, the role of the media in affecting social change, concerns about the media, watchdog journalism, and the media in cyberspace.

From Broadsheets to Broadband is suitable as a primary text for courses in American media. The anthology can also be used as a supplemental reader for classes on mass communications and American history and government.

Mark Ludwig earned his Ph.D. in political science and researched politics and mass media at Claremont Graduate University. Dr. Ludwig is a professor of journalism and communication studies at California State University, Sacramento. Prior to his career in academia, he worked as a journalist, writing and editing for the San Jose Mercury News, the Los Angeles Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
