Publisher Description:
To date, engineering of the human tissues is an interdisciplinary and a very attractive field of research. Since there is dearth of practical ways to obtain mature follicles from cryopreserved or native ovarian tissues, especially in patients suffering from ovarian dysfunctions, tissue engineering may help in restoring ovarian function and/or fertility. Decellularized tissue scaffolds provide an extracellular matrix (ECM) to simulate organs physiological functions in vitro and in vivo. The best scaffold for tissue engineering would be decellularized ECM of the target tissue, or ones with similar embryological origins such as Amniotic membrane. That is requires the use of efficient methods for seeding of the cells into the mentioned bioscaffolds. This book is a valuable finding in reproductive tissue engineering research and can help in the creation of appropriate ovarian or natural body bioscaffolds to support follicle survival and development after transplantation, ensuring secretion of the sex hormones and production of fertilizable mature oocytes.
