Rob, being pushed by his parents to find some meaningful employment after all his years of 'studying', i.e. playing football whenever he could, had stated that he was only interested in teaching PE if he could do it overseas, thinking it impossible that such a position could be found. Within twenty-four hours his mother was quoting to him the 'perfect' job advertisement from The Observer. Almost without realising it he was there, in Tangier, in Morocco, knowing that he had only got the job because the school proprietor had mistaken him for a well known gifted footballer. Consolation was available in the form of excellent hashish, alcohol and nights out with his mate, Burnsey. His pay was poor but he managed to get stoned, drunk, survive angry men with curved daggers, and teach a little at the same time. An interesting chaotic period in his life. |
