Publisher Description:
The present study was undertaken to assess the awareness and use of value addition methods of selected vegetables by growers, marketing methods followed for selling the value added products and problems faced in the use of value addition methods. Three samples of 75 each of potato, chilli, and pea growers were drawn from Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Hoshiarpur districts respectively. Data were collected personally by the researcher through interview. The findings of the study showed that grown up educated farmers after attaining the age of 25 years grew vegetables (potato, chilli and pea). All the farmers had training and experience in vegetable growing. However, none of the farmers made use of organic cultivation for these vegetable crops. Majority of them sold their raw and processed products to retailers and wholesale dealers at local market through middle man and received their payment on the spot. They lacked knowledge in processing, packing, and about equipments to be used for value addition. They also reported unsatisfactory conditions of cold stores and lack of time for value addition. This study was conducted in 2004-05.
