Publisher Description: After over a decade of peacekeeping mission experiences and observing different cultures and family systems, putting together this collection, was a way to unload my conscience and make, 'A Call'. What legacy is 'today' building for 'tomorrow'? is the underlining question repeatedly posed in the variety of themes and imageries, whether it is deceit, corruption, impunity, dishonour, migration on the dark side or love, hope and rebirth on the sunny side. I do not have the answers to the questions but as I grope around this space called 'earth' and interact with 'the others' that I share it with, I observe how, 'us' humans, recklessly treat others, our environments and state institutions and then greedily 'collect' everything for 'I'. A second issue that fights for my attention with more unanswered questions is that of the 'in betweens' in the life of the 'migrant'. On one side of the coin, he/she leaves his family in an 'underdeveloped' and 'unjust' society to get the greener apple on the 'other side'. There, he will struggle to be integrated into the society- adopting new cultures and ideologies. On the other side of the coin, he has his indigenous obligations- family and community- to keep up with. The nexus between the issues of his two different 'worlds' becomes shaky. A shakiness, that in most cases would eventually leave him in a confused state of 'return' or 'no return'; a gap which he must bridge to prevent a 'cut-off' between his two 'worlds', if he ever makes it to the 'otherside'. |
