Publisher Description: Sands of the Well, first published by New Directions clothbound in 1996, shows the poet at the height of her considerable powers. In eight sections -- "Crow Spring", "Sojourns in the Parallel World", "It Should Be Visible", "Anamnesis", "Representations", "Raga", "A South Wind", and "Close to a Lake" -- Sands of the Well addresses the natural world, music, memory, aging, doubt, and faith. Levertov's long study of the nature of spiritual insight finds here an ever more active professed engagement. |
